1. Who we are
Jotter is an independent mobile app operated from the United Kingdom. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@tryjotter.app.
2. Information we handle
Depending on how you use Jotter, we may handle the following information:
- Account information: your email address, account identifier and authentication information. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we may also receive profile information they provide, such as your name, email address or profile image.
- Your Jotter content: Jots, jot pages, tags, source details, links, privacy/resurfacing choices and related library information you choose to save.
- App activity and settings: information needed to run features such as streaks, resurfacing history, jot creation limits, notification preferences, widget preferences and whether content has been seen.
- Subscription information: your Plus entitlement and subscription status. Payments themselves are processed by Apple or Google, not directly by Jotter.
- Advertising and consent information: Free users may see Google AdMob advertising. Depending on your region and choices, Google may process device, advertising, interaction and diagnostic information to provide and measure ads.
- Support communications: information you send us when you contact support.
- Technical and security information: limited request, authentication and anti-abuse information required to secure the service and prevent misuse.
3. Information stored on your device
Jotter also stores some information locally on your device, such as session data, onboarding state, interface hints, pending authentication state, resurfacing history and preferences. Some sensitive authentication state is stored using secure device storage where supported.
4. How we use information
We use information only where reasonably necessary to:
- provide, sync and maintain your Jotter account and library;
- show Jots in Loop, notifications and widgets according to your settings;
- authenticate accounts and support email, Apple and Google sign-in;
- manage Jotter Plus subscriptions and entitlements;
- provide advertising to Free users and honour applicable consent choices;
- prevent fraud, abuse and excessive automated use;
- respond to support requests and account-deletion requests;
- diagnose problems and keep Jotter secure and reliable; and
- comply with legal obligations.
5. Legal bases
Where UK data-protection law applies, we process personal data because it is necessary to provide the service you request, because we have legitimate interests in operating and securing Jotter, because you have given consent where consent is required (for example for certain advertising choices), or because we must comply with law.
6. Services we use
We use specialist service providers to operate Jotter. They may process information on our behalf or under their own terms where relevant:
- Supabase — authentication, database and backend services.
- Resend — transactional account emails such as verification and password-reset messages.
- Apple and Google — optional sign-in providers and mobile platform services.
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management.
- Google AdMob — advertising for Free users and related consent functionality.
- Cloudflare — hosting for this website and security services. Jotter may also use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect authentication from automated abuse.
We do not sell your personal information for money.
7. Advertising and privacy choices
Jotter Plus removes ads. Free users may see Google AdMob ads. Where required, Jotter asks for advertising/privacy consent before ads are initialised. If privacy options are available in your region, you can reopen them from Jotter’s Settings screen.
8. Notifications and widgets
If you enable notifications or widgets, Jotter may display eligible saved Jots on your device. You can disable notifications in Jotter or your device settings. You can mark a Jot to keep it off notifications and widgets while retaining it inside Jotter.
9. How long we keep information
We generally keep account and library information while your account remains active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify account data we control, subject to limited information we may need to retain temporarily for security, fraud prevention, technical recovery or legal obligations. Local app data may remain on a device until the app is removed or its storage is cleared. Apple, Google and other independent providers may retain records according to their own legal and contractual obligations.
10. International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised by applicable data-protection law.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy of certain information, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can delete your Jotter account inside the app, or use our account deletion page. For other privacy requests, email support@tryjotter.app.
If UK data-protection law applies, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
12. Website privacy
This website does not intentionally use advertising cookies or behavioural analytics. Cloudflare may process basic network and request information as part of hosting, security and abuse prevention.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Jotter’s features, providers or legal obligations change. We will update the date at the top of this page when we make material changes.
